Have been diagnosed just 4 days and I'm still somewhat shocked. I'm prescribed Xalatan with all the warnings about change of eye colour and also discoloured skin. I'd like to hear how soon these side effects happen and how bad they get.

Hello Sorry to hear about your diagnosis and sure you are still somewhat shocked. However I have been taking Xalatan for over a year now and initially I felt similar in that I was concerned re any changes. However apart from my eyelashes becoming thicker (no bad thing for a female) and my eyebrows also just slightly (although this is easily dealt with by plucking etc) I have had none of the side effects which were also reported to me. My eyes have not changed colour at all (still blue) and also my skin is still the same. I only take one drop each eye, each night so don't know if there would be a difference on more dosage. Only irritation I have noticed is that I feel the drops sting my eyes a bit and they become slightly red immediately after taking them, however this recedes within a short time and I try to take them immediately prior to going to bed to alleviate this somewhat. Hope everything settles for you and medicine okay for you too.

I used Xalatan and had no problems at all. I mean apart from mild side effects like itching a little bit and burning-it was alright. The other day I found some information on a particular eye drop(Timoptic) and I was asking if anyone has ever used this before and at what stage can it be taken. I never heard of it before, thats why I am unsure about it.

i used Xalatan for a couple of years and found the only side effect was the darkening of my eye lashes, which for a man is not too good as people though I was wearing mascara. It eventually stopped reducing my pressures so I was prescibed 2 other sets of drops, Trusopt and Lumigan. Trusopt stings and lumigan like Xalatan makes your eye lashes darker and longer

i.ve been on lumigan for about 8 months. My eyes were red and i looked tired for about 2 weeks but after that I was ok. Try not to worry about having glaucoma, just be happy it was diagnosed before you lost too much sight. I'm 36 and have been taking drops for the last 4 years. It can easily be controlled with regular check ups. I've just had the operation done on one eye and will soon have the other eye done. Getting the operation is a last resort and it's not that bad. good luck

Thanks Andy. My eyes are not red anymore but the skin on the eye lids are getting dark. Did you have any change on the skin color? That is supposed to be quite common though so I am not worried about that....it is nothing really if I can keep my vision. I still haven't accepted I have glaucoma but it is so nice and reassuring to hear from people who have had glaucoma for much longer that life goes on and it doesn't have to be that bad. Thanks for you reply and have a brilliant new year.

Hello, I am new to this site so first time posting here. I was born with Glaucoma caused by Reiger's Syndrome. I have been taking Xalatan for about 6 or so years and have not had any of these side effects (wish I'd gotten the longer lashes though, mine are still skimpy) I also take Alphagan but only in my right eye, and the only thing I experience with that is blurred vision but my right eye is so bad I cant tell most of the time anyway LOL. I have taken Trusopt but that stung so much I begged my Dr. to change it, I have also taken Cosopt, Diamox (both drops and tablets) and a bunch of others I cannot remember right now.

Hi I am very glad to have found this site. I have expereinced some very serious side effects from xalatan. I wouldn't want others to go through the same thing. I have a way of brushing asside some things and unfortunately have done so with xalatan. I expereinced puffy eyes when first using them and a lot of pain in my eyes and itching. However the Pharmacist had advised this was normal so I conitinued to use them. I also noticed a feeling of breathlessness which I again ignored as I am a tad overweight and not young. I had a pounding in my chest constantly. I felt hot and had a headache much of the time. My opthalmologist was keen for me to continue on xalatan but referred me to my GP to check out my symptoms. By this time (2months) I was hardly sleeping, having trouble staying in control at work felt very stressed even though there was no reason for this - certainly not under any pressure at work. Unfortunately the GP I went to was even more relaxed about my health than I was. My blood pressure was checked and declared to be rather high. I was ordered some blood test - no results yet. The Gp advised that if I felt concerned that it was the xalatan then I could take a couple of weeks off it. I now do not doubt it has been the xalatan as I stopped using it 4 days ago and am feeling much better. The pounding in my chest has stopped, I don't feel like I am about to explode, my head has stopped pounding I actually get some sleep at night. My eyes are not itchy and are less sensitive to light( I thought this was part of having glaucome). A lot of things that I am noticing now that I had taken as a given and something I would have to live with are easing. I notice no other people reporting such rections and maybe this is because you notice a reaction straight away and discontinued use if not maybe there is something else happening with my health that I am yet to find out about and taking xalatan was exacerbating it. Just wanted others toknow what it has been like.Text
